Social Ministry
Activities Commission
This Commission's purpose is to plan and coordinate social activities for parishioners of all ages.
Christian Service Commission
This Commission offers many opportunities to live out Jesus' message to love one another. Volunteers provide the Eucharist to shut-ins and nursing home patients, visit hospital patients, serve at the soup kitchen in Lynn, sponsor the Christmas Giving Tree, the annual Mass of Anointing and Luncheon for the Elderly.
Nursing Home and Hospital Visitation
Melrose-Wakefield Hospital
Bear Hill, Kirkwood and Oosterman Nursing Homes
Eucharistic Ministers bring the Eucharist to Nursing Homes weekly, pray the Rosary, and sing hymns and "Oldies But Goodies" with the patients. Volunteers visit the sick of our community at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.
St. Joseph School Alumni Association
This group actively began in preparation and celebration of the 75th Anniversary in 2000. The Alumni Association encourages, invites, and welcomes all Alumni of the Parish School to join in the activities and interests of the Alumni Association. Plans are ongoing to establish an Endowment Fund to further develop the four-fold dimension of Catholic Education: Community, Message, Service and Worship. Plans are underway to celebrate with our alumni in the spring and fall each year. We hope to honor several graduates who have enhanced the excellence of Catholic Education.
St. Vincent de Paul Society
The St. Vincent de Paul conference at St. Joseph's Church is committed to assisting the needy of our parish and community. Its members offer a sense of caring and concern to those in need. We do not approach the needy as critics, but as friends. Our purpose is not to assess blame, but to help our neighbors achieve satisfying solutions to their difficulties. Members of St. Vincent de Paul find in their service to the poor an opportunity to serve God, who in a very special way has identified Himself with the poor. Members assist with our semi-annual Mission Drive each fall and spring to collect food for the Wakefield Food Pantry, clothing drives in the fall and spring, and the Society makes a monthly donation to My Brother's Table. For more information, contact Bob Curran at (781)245-4431.
