Pastor’s Reflection for June 4, 2017

Dear Parishioners,

Happy Birthday! Pentecost is the birthday of the Catholic Church. On this day, the Holy Spirit came down upon the apostles and empowered them to go forth to preach, teach and heal. They continued the ministry of Jesus in building up the kingdom of God. This is a feast for all of us to pray for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon ourselves and our Church. “Come Holy Spirit and fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in us the fire of your love.  Come and renew the face of the earth.” May we call upon the Spirit each day to help us to be faithful followers of Jesus, living in His ways and sharing the Good News of His love to those around us.

This Tuesday, June 6, at 7:00 p.m., we will be offering a four week session on the topic, “Who Am I To Judge?” How do we talk about morality in a world that no longer believes in truth? When we are bombarded with messages of “Be Tolerant!” and “Don’t Judge!” many people feel afraid to say anything is right or wrong. Edward Sri, the program presenter, uses engaging stories and the wisdom of the saints to unpack the Catholic moral world view. He equips us to engage relativism appealing to both the head and the heart. Learn how Catholic morality is truly about love, how making a judgement is not judging a person’s soul, how to share the truth is compassion and how, in the words of Pope Francis, relativism “wounds people” and is the “the spiritual poverty of our times.”

For your information, we will upgrade the floor in the chapel. Recently, as I spent time in prayer in the chapel, I noticed how the carpet is stained in different areas. The chapel is used for weekday adoration. It is also our children’s crying room for our Sunday liturgies. To make the chapel neater, we will replace the carpet with luxury vinyl plank flooring that will be easier to clean and present a more attractive area for prayer. This work will be done in June over the course of a week. At present we have received about 50% of the $6,800 cost. For those who still wish to help defray the cost, your contributions will be graciously received.

As a reminder, we will have our monthly Healing Mass this Wednesday, June 7, beginning at 7:00 p.m. with the recitation of the rosary.

May Jesus continue to shepherd you in all of your needs.

 God love you,
