Pastor’s Reflection for July 12, 2015

Dear Parishioners,

Our spiritual life is more than praying. It is also learning the faith and knowing the “big picture” of our salvation. We need to know the story of the purpose of our existence. God created us to be in relationship with Him (God made me to know Him, love Him and serve Him in this world and to be happy with Him in the next), we sinned, God sent His Son to redeem us but He first prepared a people (Jewish) in which He was to be born.

These past few weeks we had made the book, “The Real Story– Understanding The Big Picture Of The Bible,” available. It is written by Edward Sri and Curtis Martin.  It gives a nice summary of understanding the story that threads itself through the Bible.

We will be offering a 4 week course on “Unlocking The Mystery Of The Bible”, by Jeff Cavins and Sarah Christmyer beginning next Tuesday, July 21, at 7:00 p.m. This program will help discover the remarkable connection between the Old and New Testament. You will see how the Sacraments and the Church and our entire Catholic faith are rooted in Scripture. This program will also help you to make sense of the Bible and see how it relates to everyday life. St. Jerome says, “ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ.” Please take advantage of the opportunities to help you in reading and understanding the Scriptures.

Also, please remember we have the online adult faith formation website available called Symbolon. The featured programs available online are “Knowing the Faith” and “Living the Faith,” and there are also two marriage programs.  They are excellent in their teaching.  If you would like to view these programs, please use the Symbolon website link;  Parishioners can enter our parish code: e5d163.

In line with my homily of last weekend concerning future difficulties that are ahead, due to this nation removing itself from God’s Protection by our rebellion against the laws of God, I thought this teaching of St. Francis de Sales would be helpful.

How to Face the Storms in Life
Do not look forward in fear to the changes in life;
rather, look to them with full hope that as they arise,
God, whose very own you are,
will lead you safely through all things;
and when you cannot stand it,
God will carry you in His arms.
Do not fear what may happen tomorrow;
the same understanding Father who cares for
you today will take care of you then and every day.
He will either shield you from suffering
or will give you unfailing strength to bear it.
Be at peace,
and put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginations.

I will be available for confession this week on Wednesday, July 15, from 3:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

May Jesus continue to shepherd you in all of your needs.

God love you,
