Pastor’s Reflection for January 31, 2016
Last weekend, the Patriots lost the AFC Conference Championship. After the game and the following days, the talk was about the “what ifs.” What if the offensive line played better? What if the extra point was not missed? What if they kicked the field goal? What if they made the two-point conversion? On and on it went. Yes, life is full of “what ifs.” We can even have “what ifs” in our spiritual life. What if I prayed a little more each day? What if I forgave the person who hurt me? What if I was more generous with my money? What if I spent more time with my family? Lent comes early this year. It begins on Wednesday, February 10, 2016. This may be a good time to make some of my “what ifs” a reality. We cannot change the results of the Patriot’s game, but we can change ourselves. What if I changed my life and started to address my spiritual life to grow more in relationship with Jesus and to be a faithful disciple of the Lord? This may be a time to remove some of the “what ifs” from my life.
I mentioned the following last week but would like to repeat it again.
Lent is right around the corner. Last month I made available the book, Rediscover Jesus. This year, you can join The Dynamic Catholic Best Lent Ever, which is based on Rediscover Jesus. It is a free email program that will take you on a 40-day spiritual journey to encounter Jesus and yourself in a deeply personal way. Each day you will receive an inspirational email with a short video featuring Matthew Kelly and a member of the Dynamic Catholic Team. Throughout Lent, they will guide you through each of the 40 chapters in Rediscover Jesus and share simple ways to bring Jesus into your everyday life. You can sign up at DynamicCatholic.com/Lent or click the link on our website-.
This week, we celebrate Catholic Schools Week. St Joseph School will host an open house this Sunday, January 31, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to noon. We are blessed to have a parish school. I invite you to take a moment to visit.
The monthly Healing Mass will be this Wednesday, February 3, 2016, starting with the Rosary at 7:00 p.m.
I will be available for confessions on Monday, February 1, 2016, from 3:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
May Jesus continue to shepherd you in all of your needs.
God love you,
