Pastor’s Reflection for February 28, 2016
This Lent is a time to address areas of our lives that are sinful and not pleasing to God. One area to concentrate on is that of hate in a relationship, either us hating a person or someone who hates us. One approach that can be used to remedy this is the H.A.T.E. way:
It will diffuse rather than escalate the conflict.
Halt. Call for a cease-fire. No retaliation. Don’t allow anger to rule.
Avoid. Distance yourself from explosive situations with the potential for danger and trouble. Give yourself a “time-out.”
Truce. Look for common ground. Focus on areas of agreement, not disagreement. Try to understand actions and motives.
Evaluate. What happened to drive a wedge in the relationship? Whatever the problem is, turn insult into intercession. Pray for those who ill-treat you, and seek a mutual solution together.
It’s a challenge to love your enemies, and nothing challenges them more!
A reminder that “The Light Is On For You” is a Lenten program of the Archdiocese. A priest is available at every Catholic Church on Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. With our Healing Mass this Wednesday, March 2, I shall be available this Wednesday evening from 6:30 p.m. – 7:15 p.m.
This year’s Catholic Appeal begins on the weekend of March 5th and 6th. The Cardinal will be speaking at all the Masses via DVD next week. Our parish assessment is $ 62,608. You have been very generous to the Appeal and I do ask that you give some of your tithe to support the programs of the Archdiocese.
Just a reminder, we will have a three day mission by John Michael Talbot on March 7 – 9. It is a DVD series.
May Jesus continue to shepherd you in all of your needs.
God love you,
