Pastor’s Reflection for February 26, 2017

Dear Parishioners,

Our Lenten season begins this Wednesday. This is a season to reflect on our relationship with Jesus. Am I growing in my personal relationship with the Lord? What might I do to make my relationship stronger? More prayer time, more Scripture reading, more study of my faith? I would encourage you to consider daily Mass or going as often as you are able, not just for Lent but an ongoing activity for your spiritual growth. In growing in your relationship with Jesus, you may also want to remove anything that may be an obstacle, be a sinful activity, relationship or behavior.  Lent is a time to do whatever we can to see spiritual growth. In a way, it is like a spiritual spring cleaning. The schedule for Ash Wednesday and the information concerning fasting and abstinence can be found on page 4 of this week’s bulletin.

The Eucharist is the source and summit of our lives as Catholic Christians. So we will begin a new DVD series this Tuesday, February 28, at 7:00 p.m. This is a 10 week program and each session is 45 minutes. This will be a good Lenten program that will lead to the Last Supper on Holy Thursday. This DVD series is a great opportunity to grow in learning the great gift of the Eucharist.

We are about to begin the 2017 Catholic Appeal. In our Archdiocese, we have more than 50 ministries that enrich parish life. The contribution to the Catholic Appeal  supports these ministries. Central ministries provide vital programs and services that serve 289 parishes in 144 cities and towns, 114 Catholic elementary and secondary schools and thousands of Catholics. You may have received an appeal envelope in the mail. Appeal envelopes will be available in the foyer on March 4-5. Our assessment is $ 63,601.60. You have been generous in the past and I ask that you be generous in support of this appeal.

Our Healing Mass this month will be moved to March 8 due to Ash Wednesday being on the first Wednesday of the month.

We will again have The Light Is On For You on the Wednesdays of Lent from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.  beginning Wednesday, March 15.

I will be available for confession this week on Monday, February 27, from 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

May Jesus continue to shepherd you in all of your needs.

 God love you,
