Pastor’s Reflection for February 19, 2017

Dear Parishioners,

Lent is beginning in a few weeks on the first Wednesday of next month, March 1. In preparation for Lent, join Dynamic Catholic for Best Lent Ever, a free email program designed to help you have a life-changing Lent. You’ll get short inspirational videos and practical tips. The program is based on Matthew Kelly’s last book, Resisting Happiness, a book that was given here as a gift on Christmas. To sign up, visit: BestLentEver.com.

The Eucharist is the source and summit of our lives as Catholic Christians. So we will begin a new DVD series on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. starting February 28. This is a 10 week program and each session is 45 minutes. This will be a good Lenten program that will lead to the Last Supper on Holy Thursday. Jesus said, “This is my Body” and “This is my Blood.” Some say they’re merely symbols of remembrance. Others say they really are the Body and Blood of Christ, but can’t explain how that’s possible. The Eucharist is the center-point of the Mass ~ but why? Renowned teacher, Dr. Brant Pitre, guides us through Scripture, history, and Church teaching to illuminate the wonder and miracle of the Eucharist. He will give us a fresh perspective for understanding the mystery that is the Eucharist. The sessions will cover topics such as the mysteries of the Tabernacle, Bread of Life Discourses, Lamb of God, the Last Supper and the Cross, the Mass, and many more. Many have stopped attending Mass and I believe this is because they do not understand what the Eucharist and Mass is. This DVD series is a great opportunity to grow in learning the great gift of the Eucharist.

Concerning the Eucharist, we do have Eucharistic Adoration on Monday – Friday. This is only possible because of the parishioners who have made a commitment to spend time in the presence of the Lord. We have time slots that are in need of coverage and you can find them on page 6 of the bulletin. We do need those available times to be filled so if you are able to make a commitment, please call the rectory to sign up.

I will be available for confession this week on Monday, February 20, from 1:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.

May Jesus continue to shepherd you in all of your needs.

God love you,
