Pastor’s Reflection for February 12, 2017

Dear Parishioners,

This week we celebrate Valentine’s Day. As Christians we have the greatest love story and the greatest love relationship. We were created by love to share in love. Jesus created us to share in His love and life. God breathes His love into us in each and every breath we take. When we sadly turned away from His love (the sin of Adam and Eve), He in love promised to restore the relationship. He would not allow the relationship to end. So Jesus took on our human nature by being born of Mary and offered His Body and Blood as the ransom price for our salvation. The relationship was restored and love taught us to love, love God and to love our neighbor. God is now with us in His Spirit, love is with us in His word through Scripture and love is with us in the Eucharist. Many couples will be celebrating their love this week by buying chocolates, flowers, jewelry, and dining out. Many spend time and energy looking for love. Know that you are loved. It is the love of God that will quench our inner thirst. Let us celebrate our love of God by renewing and recommitting the love we have by being faithful in walking intimately with our God.

The Super Bowl game can give us a spiritual teaching. When things look grim and all seems to be lost, keep going for Jesus can do what seems impossible. Do not give up. If you fall, get up and keep going. Let us strive for the kingdom of heaven. Let us know that no matter what, Jesus is victorious and we are on the winning side.

I will be available for confession this week on Tuesday, February 14, from 2:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

May Jesus continue to shepherd you in all of your needs.

God love you,
