Pastor’s Reflection for August 6, 2017
As I mentioned before, we will be replacing the Mary statue in the church plaza. When you look at the statue you might wonder why we are replacing it since it looks fine at this moment. The reason is that due to excessive decomposition of the fiberglass structure and damage from UV sunlight, the paint has peeled and the mounting brackets have cracked. We have completed a cosmetic restoration which is not a lasting repair because of the extensive damage. It would cost more to fully repair the statue than to replace it.
In the interim, we have scraped off the loose material, sanded the surface smooth, applied a new coat of paint, and replaced the mounting brackets. This allows us a window of opportunity to obtain a quality replacement that the statue of Mary rightfully deserves.
We begin a new DVD series this week on Tuesday, August 8, at 7:00 p.m. It is a series on The Catholic Faith Explained. We might be familiar with different aspects of the Catholic faith but how does it all fit together? This series discusses the “big picture” of the Catholic faith in a way that helps us to know it, live it, and articulate it to others. In it, Edward Sri leads a team of teachers. For those who cannot come to the Church, you can also see this same series online through our parish subscription to Formed.org. Contact the rectory for information on how to access Formed.org.
Just a reminder, we have different spiritual activities during the week. One is our Sunday evening Holy Hour at 7:00 p.m. We gather to spend time with the Lord with reflective music and meditation. It is a good way to close our Sabbath day.
I will be available for confession this week on Wednesday, August 9, from 1:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
May Jesus continue to shepherd you in all of your needs.
God love you,
